Carnaby Street

A jukebox musical aimed squarely at the nostalgia and tourist markets, this new musical funnels 30 tracks (The Beatles, the Stones, The Kinks, The Animals, Manfred Mann…) into a coming-of-age story about a working class boy from Liverpool arriving in London with nothing but a guitar and his dreams of fame. It all sounds too painfully obvious, but the presence of award-winning designer Matthew Wright ('La Cage Aus Folles', 'Road Show') alongside director Bob Tomson gives us some hope.
