As you have no doubt seen by now, there’s been a big push to get people cycling more, both in London and the rest of the country. From new and improved Cycleways to the Fix your Bike Voucher Scheme, there are loads of initiatives to get you into riding your bike. And when it comes to getting about the city on two wheels, few know more than the legendary cycle brand, Rapha.
After years of making some of the best cycling clothing in the business, Rapha launched its own Cycling Club in 2015. Now there are 21 clubhouses and more than 17,000 members worldwide, all sharing a passion for cycling – and now this experience has arrived at Reuters Plaza in Canary Wharf until September 27.
Naturally, Rapha’s latest clothing collections for both men and women will be available for you to buy, but it’s about much more than just fresh threads. There’s a jam-packed lineup of events, workshops and challenges that will have you traversing the East End’s beautiful network of waterways like you never have before.
The workshops, which run weekly, will cover all things cycling, from group riding to strength training and roadside repairs to route planning. But the best bit? They are all free to attend. That’s right, free. All you need to do is grab a ticket online to secure your place. Rapha, with the help of its official ride leaders, has also put together a local route library. A series of lesser-known cycle paths that will take you all over the city, and even into the home counties if you’re up for a longer ride.
On September 6, the pop-up will be encouraging women to mount up for the Women’s 100. What’s that, you say? It’s a 100km cycle challenge, featuring a variety of pre-planned routes and rewards for those who finish. And the challenges don’t end there. From September 19 to 20, the City Island Challange will put riders to the test, asking them to hit a series of checkpoints in the Docklands over two days, with a commemorative prize for those that make it to the end.
So, whether you’re looking to explore east London by bike, learn some handy new skills or you just want to upgrade your cycling wardrobe, Rapha’s pop-up has a little something for everyone. But remember, it’s only around until September 27 – so saddle up!
