The Water Monopoly certainly has the wow factor. The company, based in a converted stables, specialises in restored English and French antique sanitaryware. Choose from over 200 baths and basins, from copper tubs to polished-iron wash stands, all expertly restored to your chosen finish. Our last visit unearthed a French 1930s art deco double basin and an Edwardian canopy shower bath complete with body sprays. There’s no need to worry about dodgy old plumbing – each item comes complete with fittings converted for modern pipes, and smart new taps in classic designs, such as its Bistrot range, work perfectly with the antique baths and basins. As well as original pieces, there’s a selection of reproductions such as the beautiful freestanding Paris bath based on a French stone tub (from £5,200 plus VAT). Children – or exhibitionists – will appreciate the Porthole bath (£3,250 plus VAT) with its two glazed portholes on the side.
