KJ’s Laundry, the Ginger Pig of clothes shopping, has opened a second outpost- funnily enough, classily plonked right opposite Waitrose King’s Road. Here, in this very civilised avenue of cashmere cardie and French weekend wear shops, it’s very much at home. While a move to Clerkenwell or even Stokey might have inspired the girls to give the product range a bit more of an edge, Chelsea has encouraged them to do what they do best- perfect separates in porridge colours- with the odd artful pop of colour in the shape of a leopard print dress or a Breton stripe. The sky-high rents of an SW3 location mean they probably can’t afford to take many risks with stock (it’s no accident that KJ’s is the lone indie voice on a street populate entirely by moneyed chain stores), but it does mean that you will inevitably find something you love here- after all, what most of us wear every day are lovely soft blouses, mannish trousers, simple flats and silk dresses in seasonal prints. The store is small, but airy and bright, and it’s easy to flick through accessible, stylish labels such as IRO, Charlotte Taylor, Tucker and Hudson. With 20 per cent off EVERYTHING until Sunday, it’s also probably the cheapest place to buy these gently hip brands in the capital right now, so make a visit sooner rather than later- this is one laundry session you won’t want to put off.
