It’s got oddball market stalls and old stalwarts Morleys, but Brixton doesn’t yet boast a crop of independent fashion boutiques to rival Shoreditch or Hackney. This makes Atlantic Road an interesting choice for Article’s second branch. The streetwear store is tucked under a railway arch and has a full page of ticks on the cool boutique hit list – pot plants hiding under terrariums, minimalist wood fittings and a corrugated metal roof that gives the feel of shopping in a hipster Anderson shelter. Like its Kingsland Road sibling, there’s carefully curated rails of understated designs from brands such as YMC, Edwin and Levi’s, with bags and accessories from Sanqvist, Herschel and Nixon. It’s also worth asking the staff about the limited edition drops they have pencilled in the calendar. But Article’s real calling card is the beautifully laid out shoe room, found to the side of the main store – invisible from the street, the impressive array of trainers and shoes is coordinated by colour, making it almost too pretty to shop from. There’s a handful of women’s sizes available too, if you’re quick enough.
