Annie Moss’s shop was the obvious choice for providing dresses for the 1980s Brideshead Revisited TV series. Knockout flapper dresses are the speciality. Everything is sheer, floaty and ethereal. The paler dresses are currently popular with brides, and are good value compared to modern off-the-peg frocks. For a more traditional choice, there’s a rail of wedding dresses from the Victorian period and slinkier bias cut numbers from the 1930s. Most day dresses date from the 1930s and ’40s, but you’ll also find later vintage too, such as 1950s appliqué skirts. There is a good selection of accessories – delicate fans, parasols, chic hats, 1920s shoes, swimwear and even baby clothes.
