Boost your child's brain power by heading down to Fortnum & Mason where chess maestro Jason Kouchak will be teaching kids to play on a giant, life-size chessboard. The Iris Theatre Group will also be giving readings from Lewis Carroll's ‘Through the Looking-Glass’, so your little ones can develop their imagination in tandem with their logic skills. If you child shows an immediate aptitude for the game, you might also like to invest in the one-off chessboard the store has on display: illustrated by Sir John Tenniel – the original illustrator of both Alice in Wonderland stories – it features drawings from the two books and will set you back a mere £2750. Checkmate!
