A pub, restaurant and hotel from restaurateur Greg Bellamy and Paul Merrett - a Michelin-starred chef and TV regular. Its location on the edge of Richmond Park is certainly an enviable one, but even if it didn't enjoy such lush surrounds its impressive garden - very popular come summertime - would still attract those with an eye on the bucolic.
The seasonal menu reads like a gastropub menu, but one with a flourish or two. Loch Duart salmon, for example, is served as sashimi, with a 'crunch' of chilli and shallot, pickled cucumber and ketjap manis - an Indonesian soy sauce. A tenderloin of Gloucester Old Spot is served with prosciutto, sage, soft polenta, wild mushrooms, purple sprouting broccoli and a smoked onion purée.
Weekend brunches draw the well-heeled locals, with Sunday roasts also proving popular. The bar area offers its own food menu alongside Cask Marque beers and a wine list dipping into the old world and new, with many bottles available by the glass, too. Keep an eye out for live music as well as special events.
