The area immediately surrounding the Royal Albert Hall has a dearth of gastronomic delights, so the prospect of a decent Italian restaurant in the building is appealing. But Verdi is more of a safe option on your way into a performance than a destination for modern Italian cuisine.
The menu holds few surprises – there’s stone-baked pizzas ranging from classic margherita or cured ham and rocket to the less traditional toppings of chicken and smoked peppers or prawns, asparagus and mozzarella. Pasta dishes include a decent spaghetti carbonara, and there are also meat and fish dishes such as chargrilled chicken or oven-roasted sea bream.
Expect efficient service, a bright and breezy space, and plenty of tourists as dining companions.
