There’s a lot to like at this brand-new restaurant and bar at The Sidings, underneath Waterloo Station. The setting’s a doozy, with a swanky interior put together by F&B design specialists, Faber. (No surprise to see some lovely floral influence, too.)
The menu is British, with a few poshed-up takes on classic London dishes. That means things like potted Portland crab with butterfly muffins, and Kentish lamb shoulder with barley and broad beans alongside a (fancy) vegan take on pie and mash (puy lentil and caramelised shallot pie with colcannon) and a very good-looking fish ‘in’ a chip dish, served with hollandaise and peas.
Innovative cocktails are a draw, not least the ‘Dum’ Tweedle ‘Tini’ – a mix of Old Tom Gin, mead and Noilly Prat vermouth. The Rosehip – Everleaf Mountain, peach syrup and light tonic – looks like a great non-alcoholic option. Keep an eye out for a very interesting selection of tequila, too.
