This restaurant, bar and gig venue on West Smithfield is from Hush Heath Hospitality - the group behind The Bull & The Hide by Liverpool Street. There's a cocktail bar - The Balfour Bar - upstairs, too, where spirits hailing from England are served alongside wines from the group's own Hush Heath Estate winery in Kent.
They seem pretty serious about their booze here. There are 17 different craft beers available at the bar, including the likes of Pin Up Pale Ale, Brooklyn Lager, Meantime Pilsner and Anchor Liberty Ale. The wine list features bottles from both the old world and new, supplemented by a selection from Kent - including those produced at Hush Heath.
The food menu boasts a British bent thanks to both the sourcing - meats are from neaby Smithfield Market, for example - and in dishes such as Welsh rarebit, beer battered fish and chips, a selection of pies and ham hock served with champ and parsley sauce. Sundays welcome roasts and all day brunches.
There's live music on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evening each week, ranging from jazz and funk to six-piece party bands. Keep an eye out for special events, too.
