This Punjabi restaurant in Whitechapel is certainly in good company – Tayyabs is just around the corner, and Lahore Kebab House is down the road. Sajjad's looks to hold its own with authentic Punjabi dishes, curry house classics and a few dishes of its own design.
That means a menu ranging from mutton tikka, tender lamb chops, tandoori chicken and lamb bhindi to chicken keema, saag aloo, chana lamb, lamb biryani and kahari chicken, here served fiery hot. Daily specials throughout the week include batera (quail), kahari prawns and haleem - a lentil and meat stew popular across the Middle East, central Asia and the Indian subcontinent.
Desserts go from the authentic (rasmalai, kheer, gulab jaman and malai kulfi) to ice cream and chocolate fudge cake.
