There are very few places in London where you can sit, and sit, and sit, and no one will try and hurry you along or harass you to spend nearly £4 on yet another coffee you don’t really want, but Tufnell Park’s Rustique Literary Cafe is one. Here, you can sit for hours at a book-shaped table by a trickling fountain and listen to the sweet symphonies of Classic FM while you flick through a bit of Shakespeare or a Nigella Lawson autobiography you’ve pulled off the shelf. Offering milky lattes, jacket potatoes and other comforting fare on a menu that’s unchanged since it first opened in 2000, it’s an unpretentious sort of place, and a welcome antidote to the one-hour reservations and QR code menus that we’ve grown used these days. Long live Rustique.
