Pizzeria Bel-Sit

There’s a corner of Woodford that will be forever Italy. The decor at this bustling restaurant mixes the Italian passion for calcio (football jerseys and scarves adorn the walls) with the Essex passion for celebrity (signed mug shots include one of EastEnders actor Steve McFadden). Amazingly, it works, though that’s perhaps more to do with the Rimini-born owners and their warm and welcoming staff. The keenly priced and generously portioned food is of a high standard. Starters include the usual garlic breads and sharing plates, and pizzas are the highlights of the mains; the calzone genovese, filled with clams, squid, prawns and mozzarella, was superb. For dessert, profiteroles with white and milk chocolate sauce are an indulgence not to be missed.
