It should probably come as little surprise that mussels are the focus at this popup-turned-permanent restaurant just a short stroll from Dalston Junction. It's a fun, tongue-in-cheek spot boasting Captain Bob at the helm - a shipshape host prepared to take on all-comers at a game of thumb war. You'll win a T-shirt if you beat him.
The food and drink is a serious affair, though. Expect starters of seared scallops served with crispy Stornaway black pudding and apple; soft-shell crab with a warm carrot salad; a Caesar salad with anchovies and bacon; and rock oysters from across the British Isles. Mains range from Shetland mussels mariniere with skinny fries to sea bass bouillabaisse, seafood linguine, and salmon with crushed potatoes, spinach and barigoule.
The drinks list features wines, beers and ciders to complement the seafood as well as top-shelf spirits for those seeking something stronger. Keep an eye out for special menus too, including 'what Captain Bob eats' - a hearty mix of 25 oysters, 12 half-langoustines and mussel beards. Probably best for a group, that one. Vegetarian options also feature.
