What would you drink out of a horn cup? No, it’s not a euphemism. In Paraguay, they fill theirs with a cold infusion made from the caffeinated plant – yerba mate. Not dissimilar to a very strongly brewed green tea, tereré is sucked through a silver straw with a filter at the bottom. If you fancy a taste, then head down to Brick Lane’s new Paraguayan café – Morena Bakery. They’re also selling Latin American-inspired sweet treats such as chocolate-dipped biscuits sandwiched with caramel-like dulce de leche (alfajores), or tangy tropical fruit tarts and cakes. Fill your boots.
