Please note, Luzon is now closed. Time Out Food & Drink editors, Nov 2015.
There aren't many Filipino restaurants in London, so this new spot, at the Generator Hostel on Tavistock Place, comes as a nice surprise. The only downside? It's a three month pop-up - and only open on Thursdays and Fridays. Best get in quick if you want to try it.
The aim here is to showcase classic Filipino cooking, albeit with more than a few contemporary touches influenced by other cuisines. Expect, then, dishes such as pork tocino, red mullet escabeche, mackerel in a lime-chilli marinade and chicken adobo, here served with chayote - a fruit native to Mexico and belonging to the same family as the squash, melon and cucumber.
Desserts include a leche flan served with a cashew nut praline and lime sorbet and turon - a sweet of plantain spring rolls with salted caramel cream, plantain purée, pineapple and snapdragon flowers.
Luzon runs from 6 August to 6 November 2015.
