London’s love affair with bao – those fluffy white Taiwanese steamed buns – is still going strong, so Le Bao should be on to a winner. This stall promises a modern twist on the traditional treat, but nothing on the menu proves game-changing: my ‘cluck’ bun (two for £8) was stuffed with beautifully smoky, crisped fried chicken, but there were large lumps of fat in the meat, and the lettuce it came with was limp. A more conventional braised pork belly bao was lovely, though – packed with fresh coriander and deliciously sweet and sour chilli hoisin sauce. My tip? Take a bao with the classics.
