Icecreamists is now closed.
At Icecreamists, good-looking staff dressed in black military-style uniforms, complete with caps, serve you in front of black walls with a neon pink ‘God save the cream’ scribbled across. What was exciting when it first opened now seems a bit gimmicky, but names such as ‘sex, drugs and choc ’n’ roll’ are much more fun than ‘milk chocolate’ (which it actually is). You’re enticed to try different flavours, such as popcorn, aka ‘smack, crack and pop’.
The creamy gelato-style ice-cream is excellent, but the sundaes are a bit of a let-down. The ‘rock ’n’ royal ice-cream sandwich’ turned out to be two rather dry giant chocolate chip cookies with an ice-cream flavour of your choice in between. The ice-cream to cookie ratio didn’t work and we regretted not having chosen one of the alcoholic ice-cream cocktails instead. Prices match the Covent Garden Market location; sundaes, for example, start at £9.95, but you can take away one of the black ice-cream cones more cheaply.
