This Devonshire Square restaurant is another from the Mark Hix stable. It's had a bit of a rebrand (it was, until recently, called Hixter) to bring it in line with many of the other Hix venues. That means a slightly longer menu of seasonal British food, with a focus on oysters, seafood and locally produced meats.
The menu does go big on Blighty. Starters range from Yorkshire pudding 'snax' with whipped chicken livers to steamed Wye Valley asparagus with hollandaise, and 'Hix cure' De Beauvoir smoked salmon served with Corrigan's soda bread. Mains include poshed up fish and chips or bangers and mash, as well as Glenarm Estate porterhouse steaks and spring lamb from Howbarrow Farm.
The wine list leans toward the old world, though the Americas, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia do feature. Cocktails include espresso martinis, celebrations (Pampero Bianco rum, Tanqueray, Mark's redcurrant syrup and grapefruit juice) and a Hix fix - Somerset morello cherry eau de vie with Nyetimber sparkling wine.
