This blue tile-fronted former neighbourhood boozer is stripped down and ready for business. Between mealtimes, young professionals break away from freelance duties to stake out a scuffed-wood table and sup pints of Sharp’s Doom Bar, Ubu Purity, Sambrook’s Wandle and Atlantic IPA (the selection changes regularly).
Bitburger is the best option as far as draught lager goes; the wine choice is extensive. A daily-chalked menu lists about 20 dishes. Standards are high, but then so are the prices: Thai green chicken curry with steamed rice was £12.50 on one visit.
Seating outside lends itself to summer evenings, although there’s little to look at but other houses.
