A marshmallow’s throw from the Phoenix cinema, Eat Me Drink Me Lick Me isn’t the provocative joint its name might suggest, but a cheerful family-friendly ice-cream café. There’s pastries, pretzels and cookies (eat), milkshakes, floats, coffees and cans (drink) and most importantly, gelato with a kaleidoscope of sauces and sprinkles available on the side (lick). Simple chocolate was easily the best of the flavours we tried, though you’ll find a good choice of Italian classics (stracciatella, rocher, tiramisu and so on) and fresh fruit sorbets. Can’t decide? The open sundae (three scoops, three toppings, fruit and whipped cream) at £6.50 is big enough to share. Nice to see the chewy Belgian waffles cooked to order. There’s cute little Alessi-style stools and tables for the bairns, and a degree of comfort and space at the grown-up tables (and in the loo) that would make central London ice-cream parlours pistachio-green with envy.
