Time Out says

Please note, Burnt Lemon Bakery has now closed. Time Out Food editors, January 2019.

The name may suggest that the bakers at Burnt Lemon – a little bread haven in Flat Iron Square – have a habit of leaving things in the oven a bit too long, but the stuff they actually serve tells a different story.

Top of the pops when I visited was a toasted sandwich featuring comté, mushroom and truffle oil between two slices of chewy sourdough. The cheese could have taken a little bit more melt, but otherwise this was a fine toastie. Also notable was the rich tomato soup, which my companion claimed to be the best she’d ever tasted, and a lemon drizzle cake that was so moist it practically dripped each time I bit into it.

This said, Burnt Lemon Bakery is by no means perfect. I found the service to be a bit confused, and no one explained that orders would be brought to our table despite the fact I’d been waiting to collect at the till for five minutes like, well, a lemon. Still, it’s a pleasant space to hang around in, with a well-worn aesthetic and large windows that let in plenty of light. A good little pit stop if you’re passing by.
