This popular Ludgate Broadway spot is one of three City branches from Assenheims 56 - a mini-chain offering breakfasts and lunches of a South American bent. Their speciality? Grilled marinated chicken served with a house sauce made from coriander, spices and cold-pressed rapeseed oil.
Breakfasts are more recognisable - think bacon and sausage sandwiches, omelettes, full Englishes and slices of toast and butter. There is, though, pericos - a Colombian dish of sautéed tomatoes and spring onions mixed into scrambled eggs.
Lunches offer sandwiches with a South American slant. Options include a Cuban (slow-cooked barbecue pulled pork with ham, Swiss cheese, pickles and mustard may), a Puerto Rican jibarito (chicken breast and a South American salad between fried plantain) and a chivito (steak, mozzarella, tomatoes, olives, bacon and mayo). Other sandwiches are available, too.
