This breakfast and lunch spot close to Moorgate tube is one of three Assenheims 56s in the City – there are siblings over on Ludgate Broadway and Great Tower Street. It specialises in food with a South American slant.
Most of that slant comes from lunchtime sandwiches influenced by the cuisines of Cuba, Puerto Rico, Argentina, Colombia and Uruguay. The Argentine choripan is an example - a soft torpedo roll with two chorizo sausages and a South American salad of carrot, white cabbage, coriander, olive oil, lemon juice and white vinegar.
The brand's speciality, though, is grilled marinated chicken. It's grilled until slightly charred and served with tabasco or their homemade green sauce - made from coriander, spices and cold-pressed rapeseed oil. Traditional English breakfasts are also available.
