Please note, Amitas is now closed. Time Out Food & Drink editors, March 2016.
Early Sunday evening isn’t prime dining time on this bleak street, brightened by sari shops and a clutch of curry houses. A slightly sleeker version of the competition, Amitas is still pretty basic: a well-stocked sweets counter in one half, a relatively spacious and comfortable seating area in the other. A special thali was rather hit and miss for £7.50; we recommend you try something off the specials board instead – one of a range of savoury pooris, perhaps. The lurid ice-cream faluda (with a similar flavour to Turkish Delight and constructed like a sundae) will entertain both children and inner chilren alike. For adults, there’s the rarity of a licensed bar with a good range of spirits, beers and wines.
