‘Ice cream £29? Flipping ice cream?’ It’s probably the usual response from anyone perusing the ‘menu’ after taking a seat at this Arizona-themed coffee shop. Then you realise the real menu is behind the counter and you’re reading a list of treatments available in the (attached) waxing salon on the floor above. Before I can put the list back discreetly, I am assured that everything applies to both sexes. Hey, I can even get a ‘boyzilian’!
But let’s keep it downstairs, as it were, where the clientele tends to be young couples and the eclectic soundtrack ranges from ’70s funk to ’40s show tunes to reggae. Coffee is imported from Melbourne and is decent, although I was at a loss to understand why a flat white was served in a tea cup. Now, place your thumbs together and your forefingers together and make the biggest shape you can. That’s the size of the sandwiches, starting at £6 – unacceptable, right? Move further down the board and the Sweet and Salty Sourdough Waffle (£6.50), all peanut cream, blueberry jam and candied pecans, saves the day. It was so good I got another to go. Don’t judge me: if you’re that body-conscious, your place is upstairs.
