The BBC Symphony Orchestra welcomes rising conductor Kazuki Yamada to the helm as it continues to mark its eightieth year. They perform Takemitsu's Requiem for string orchestra; the UK premiere of Thomas Larcher's Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, featuring soloist Isabelle Faust, for whom the work was composed; and Rachmaninov's bold, sweeping Symphony No 2 in E minor, the piece that established Rachmaninov's prowess as a symphonic composer. (Note: ticket holders are also admitted to a pre-concert talk in the Fountain Room at 6pm. Places are limited for this talk so arrive early to avoid disappointment)
