The Boyan Ensemble of Kiev is a choir celebrating 20 years. The 25 male voices, drawn from Ukraine's Revutsky Academic Male Capella, are joined by the lyric soprano Valentina Ivanenko. In the first part of the programme, sacred chants reflect the gold-encrusted grandeur of the Orthodox Liturgy, while a striking change of mood in the second part transports the audience into the exciting folk culture of Ukraine and a kaleidoscope of thrilling songs in traditional embroidered shirts with some of the songs accompanied on the bandura, hurdy-gurdy and bayan.
