Pianist and guitarist Sergei Podobedov and David Braid play their new arrangements of the organ music of sixteenth-century Dutch composer Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck, together with works by JS Bach and the duo’s guitarist David Braid.
The remarkable blending of the two instruments, not often heard together, is achieved by David’s use of a semi-acoustic archtop guitar, orchestrating the textures in the manner of organ registration, a fresh but stylistically-sensitive approach to this fascinating music of the contrapuntal school. Braid’s music, also highly contrapuntal, makes an ideal aesthetic complement to the earlier music, setting the programme in an equilibrium between past and future.
