Beethoven's stately 'Egmont Overture', composed for Goethe's play of the same name, launches the programme which also includes this composer's joyous Symphony No 8 and not one, but two piano concertos. The pianist Diana Brekalo performs the world premiere of Fribbins's Piano Concerto before being joined by trumpeter Angela Whelan to play Shostakovich's humorous Concerto No 1 for Piano, Trumpet and String Orchestra. Robertas Servenikas conducts the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
