Inner Parry Room at RCM:

In celebration of its tenth anniversary, cutting-edge, new-music ensemble rarescale has instituted a competition, inviting student and professional composers from across the world to create brand new works for alto and bass flute.

Shortlisted pieces in the student category are discussed and performed in a workshop under the guidance of rarescale's artistic director, Carla Rees, and composer-in-residence, Michael Oliva.  

Azlee Babar: 'Fluorepv' (soprano, violin, bass flute and marimba),

William Hunt: 'How Lonely' (alto flute and piano)

Barry O'Halpin: 'two molluscs' (flute and bass flute)

Montgomery Sadler: 'Marjani' (alto flute)

Devon Tipp: 'Twenty Thousand Folds' (alto flute and guitar)

(The professional category final is on Fri Sept 27.)
