In celebration of their tenth anniversary, cutting-edge, new-music ensemble rarescale (Carla Rees, artistic director and Michael Oliva, composer-in-residence) have instituted a competition, inviting student and professional composers from across the world to create brand new works for alto and bass flute.
In this final of the professional category of the competition, all of the shortlisted works are performed and the winners are announced at the end of the evening.

Christian Baldini: 'Kingma and the Duke' (bass flute)
Jon Jeffrey Grier: 'Attitudes' (two alto flutes)
Peter Nagle: 'Cantus' (alto flute and drones)
Kala Pierson: 'Bright Curves' (alto/bass flute)
Benjamin Tassie: 'Schwuh-eeet' (bass flute, clarinet/bass clarinet, cello and electronics)
Marc Yeats: 'Strange and Artificial Echos' (alto flute)
