The BBC Symphony Orchestra and BBC Symphony Chorus under Semyon Bychkov, featuring soloists soprano Viktoria Yastrebova, tenor Frank Lopardo and baritone Vladimir Vaneev. Rachmaninov's 'The Bells' – a choral symphony which sets Edgar Allan Poe's poem to music; and Walton's Symphony No 1 in B flat minor, a piece that sealed the composer's fame.
The concert is part of BBC Family Music Intro, an introduction to concert-going for families. Call the Box Office for details.
There is also a Study Afternoon offering history and insight into the makings and workings of the orchestra, at 2.30pm at the Barbican. Tickets £5.
(Note: ticket holders are also admitted to a pre-concert talk in the Fountain Room at 6pm. Places are limited for this talk so please arrive early to avoid disappointment.)
