In the open-air venue on the South Bank, near Tower Bridge, the Merry Opera Company presents Kit Hesketh-Harvey's English translation and adaptation of Mozart's fairytale in which lofty divas and low comedians flourish. Watching closely are the shadowy forces of Freemasonry; and the composer, Mozart, fears he is being poisoned.
Starring in this part-opera, part-pantomime production are Fleur de Bray/ Elisabeth Marshall (Queen of the Night), Daisy Brown/ Catarina Sareno (Pamina), Dario Dugandzic/ James Harrison (Papageno), Thomas Faulkner/Matthew Quirk (Sarastro), Kristin Finnigan (Third Lady), Lawrence Olsworth-Peter/Joe Morgan (Tamino/Mozart), Gemma Morsley (Papagena), and Glenn Tweedie (Monastatos).
Pianist Stephen Hose directs a band of violin, viola, cello and clarinet.
