A five-day festival to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the death of the English composer John Ireland begins with a concert to include pieces from opposing ends of Ireland's compositional career; the early Trio for Clarinet, Cello and Piano (1913), and the Fantasy Sonata for Clarinet and Piano (1943). Plus, two rarely heard works by Ireland's teacher Charles Villiers Stanford – his Second Piano Quartet; and a pupil – Richard Arnell's 'Partita' for solo Viola. Performed by the London Soloists Ensemble: Lorraine McAslan, Sarah-Jane Bradley, Karine Georgian, Anthony Pike and John Lenehan.
