The Gold Medal is the Guildhall School's most prestigious award for singers and instrumentalists who compete in alternate years for this coveted prize. This year is for singers and the four finalists are Ashley Riches (baritone); Natalya Romaniw (soprano); Victor Sicard (baritone) and Koji Terada (baritone). Each competitor performs a short programme with piano accompaniment in the first half of the concert, followed by arias with the Guildhall Symphony Orchestra under Siân Edwards. The evening closes with the adjudication by the panel and announcement of the winner. The judges are Jonathan Vaughan, Director of Music at the Guildhall School; conductor Sian Edwards; mezzo-soprano Dame Janet Baker; ENO's Music Director Edward Gardner and the music critic Edward Seckerson.
