Zátopek! is a 12-minute opera with music by Emily Howard and libretto by Selma Dimitrijevic inspired by the life and times of legendary Czech long distance runner Emil Zátopek. At the 1952 Helsinki Olympics he achieved a sensational hattrick winning gold at 5000m, 10,000m and the marathon. 'Zátopek!' is a near real time recreation of this famous race with all its thrilling drama played out live on stage by Second Movement, Ensemble 10/10 and members of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Choir and Youth Choir.
