We're still unsure if The Best of British Pop is meant to be as camp as Christmas, but we enjoyed it all the more for its bonkers blend of British pop classics, choreographed dance routines and circus acrobatics, in a dinner-and-a-show set-up in the extravagant Bloomsbury Ballrooms. The tunes start from the swinging '60s and move chronologically – and, at times, hilariously – through the years like 'Top of the Pops 2' on heat. Catch fire eaters gobbling up flames to 'Candle in the Wind' (what must surely be the best tribute to Princess Di yet), a Dulux dog galloping along to the Beatles and chesty young things (from both the sexes) street dancing to the Spice Girls. Cocktails on the menu take their names from pop hits and after the show you can take to the floor yourself for more solid gold cheese from DJs until late. If you didn't get tickets to Eurovision, this might just be the answer to your prayers. Laura Richards
