The festive season is a time for indulgence. A time to loosen the belt buckles a notch and indulge in that second, third and fourth helping of cheese and – oh why not? – a bit of cake as well.
But if you’ve ever looked at December’s artery-clogging array of culinary delights and been left wanting, then fish and chip fave Poppies of Soho has got just the thing.
From December 1 until Christmas Day, the Old Compton Street branch will be taking classic Quality Street choccies and running them through the deep fryer. Think greasy Green Triangles, molten toffee fingers and squidgy Purple Ones – but with a golden battered outer layer.
Is it great? It is gross? Who can say? Should you make you sure you eat an apple or something as well to balance it out? Almost certainly. It turns out deep fried Quality Street don’t look super appealing but, hey, you can't fault this commitment to the season’s treating.
Poppies’ battered Quality Street cost £2.50 for five, available throughout December.
