Our city’s community spirit was exemplified when generous Londoners rallied together to open an LGBTQ+ community centre – the first in London since the early ’90s. The centre’s fundraising target was £50,000. In the end it raised more than £100,000, thanks to the support of LGBTQ+ Londoners and their allies (and the band The 1975). Sarah Moore, who is part of the proposed centre’s communications team, thinks the centre is essential. ‘There’s been a huge lack of support for marginalised groups,’ she says. ‘And there aren’t real places of refuge where you’re not treated like an outsider. It’s great to see that people are able to set up organisations through community.’ Read more about the centre.
