We know that housing in London is a hellscape right now, with lots of people barely able to afford places on the city’s outskirts. But that doesn’t mean we can’t partake in a healthy dose of daydreaming about where we would most like to have a three-storey townhouse with a roof terrace and a massive back garden.

Time Out asked Londoners where they would live in the city if money were no object. Would it be a penthouse in the City, a megamansion in Knightsbridge, or a cute mews house in Primrose Hill? Their answers were varied, but not that surprising, given the amazing variety of top-dollar real estate London has to offer. Here’s what they said.

The top-liked answer was ‘Hampstead near the Heath’. According to Rightmove, the average house in NW3 is going for a mega £1,347,345. As a famous celeb haunt, with the likes of Harry Styles, Taylor Swift and Helena Bonham Carter all having houses there, it’s no shock that this A-lister-packed spot is one of Londoners’ top choices.

Other popular spots were Marylebone, where the average house price is £1,639,445, and Richmond, AKA the UK’s second-happiest place to live where a house costs an average £951,539.

Other popular places included near the King’s Road in Chelsea, near the Globe theatre on the Southbank and ‘the posh bit of Islington’.

There were also shout outs to mews houses in Westminster, Parsons Green and Notting Hill. And some wanted to live in the Barbican

Other responses however were more sobering. ‘Where I used to live, my home, until I was priced out – Twickenham,’ one person wrote.

If money were no object, where would you live?
