[title]
Gangs of London is back for a third season in a flurry of blood, thunder and unbelievably OTT action sequences. The Sky series is set in a ‘Gotham-like’, alternative London that you’ll be glad not to live in but that’s plenty of wince-worthy fun to visit on the small screen. And there’s no Batman here to keep the peace.
Instead, season 3 reunites us with a cast of criminals and shady figure in a fictional London where even the mayor is on coke. The new eight-episode run also introduces ruthless new figures to a London gangland that isn’t exactly short of them.

What happens in Gangs of London season 3?
When a batch of fentanyl-spiked cocaine leads to dozens of fatalities in a city nightclub and even claims the life of one mobster’s daughter, the finger of blame is pointed at the newly imprisoned Sean Wallace (Joe Cole). London Mayor Simone Thearle (The Fall of the House of Usher’s T'Nia Mille) has a radical solution to the city’s drug problem – take them all herself to legalise them – while ex-cop turned fully-fledged gangster Elliot Finch (Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù) is the closest GoL has to a hero – which is to say, not every close.
Game of Thrones’ Michelle Fairley returns as Sean’s mum and Wallace family matriarch Marian, the widow of Colm Meaney’s psychotic gangster Finn who got his well-deserved comeuppance in season 1. Lucian Msamati, recently seen as Conclave’s Cardinal Adeyemi, is back as the Wallace’s right-hand man Ed Dumani.
A mysterious hitman called Zeek (Black Doves’ Andrew Koji), meanwhile, lurks in the shadows, promising added mayhem. Richard Dormer does something similar in broad daylight as a roguish Irishman with Wallace connections called Cornelius Quinn. Look out, too, for Albanian crime lord Luan Dushaj (Orli Shuka) to take a prominent role in what follows.
In short? Everyone is heavily armed and everyone has an itchy trigger finger. Take cover behind the sofa.
Where was season 3 filmed?

Fabric
The bloodletting, scheming and vengeance kicks off with a man-made disaster at Fabric. There, a batch of fentanyl-laced cocaine kills dozens of clubbers in the opening episode.
The Horseshoe, Clerkenwell
This friendly, old-school pub was the scene of a mind-blowingly violent dust-up in season 1 and it’s back for another cameo appears in the third run when a wounded Sean Wallace (Cole) staggers in. Darts feature again but this time they mostly stay out of people’s heads.

St Augustine’s Church, Kilburn
Kilburn’s imposing, red-brick church, sometimes known as ‘the Cathedral of North London’, is the striking location for a major funeral-turned-shootout in episode 4.

Gunnersbury Park
A funfair belonging to Irish newcomer Cornelius Quinn (Dormer) delivers an entirely original set of bloody takedowns when Elliot and Luan head there to track down the source of the contaminated cocaine. The set was built and filmed in Ealing’s Gunnersbury Park.

Leadenhall, City of London
The instantly recognisable cityscape of London’s Square Mile is a semi-regular fixture in Gangs of London. An early season mobster gun battle was filmed round the corner for Leadenhall Market (aka Diagon Alley).

Carlisle Lane, Waterloo
This tunnel sequence was filmed below Waterloo Station’s many railway bridges on a back lane that used to called, literally, Back Lane. Historically, this is the Archbishop of Canterbury’s turf but even angels fear to tread on Gangs of London’s lawless streets.

The Ridges, Wokingham
This posh Home Counties pile was used as the family home of Albanian gang leader Luan Dushaj.
Gloucester House, Richmond Hill
This grand Edwardian Grade I listed pile is used as the home of Marian Wallace (Fairley). It’s the kind of townhouse you can imagine a mob matriarch to live in: imposing but unobtrusive, and perfect for lying low while a drug war plays out across town.

Aldwych Station
The old Tube station at Aldwych has appeared in everything from Sliding Doors to Skyfall. It’s back in action in GoL season 3 when Sean Wallace escapes from a prison van and goes on the run. Don’t pay too much attention your A-Z in this sequence: he starts in Clerkenwell and ends in Greenwich, and at no point is an Uber involved.
