Everyone has a passion project. Ours is to finally finish Ken Burns’s weighty ‘Vietnam’ doc so we can get back to watching ‘Love Island’. Being a man of substance, Idris Elba has even loftier dreams. He’s been aiming to get his first filmmaking project off the ground and into our cinemas – and he’s on the cusp of doing just that.
Part set in his beloved Hackney, Big Dris’s ‘Yardie’ is a story that combines his love of music with a crunching slice of London’s social history (and the odd pistol-waving bad boy). It stars charismatic newcomer Aml Ameen as D, a Jamaican kid who falls in with music producer and drug trafficker King Fox (Sheldon Shepherd). Take a look at the new trailer below.
