Dear Time Out London readers,

It’s been a while, hasn’t it?

As you’ve no doubt heard by now, travel restrictions to the US are finally lifting today, meaning the vaccinated among you are able to once again freely travel to America and, more importantly, New York City. We are excited to have you back!

First, a quick primer on what you’ve missed. We reopened our brilliant Time Out Market New York – where we've gathered the city's best food, drink and culture under one roof in Brooklyn, with killer views of Manhattan and the East River. They put up a giant Ferris wheel in the middle of Times Square and then they took it down. All of our sidewalks are restaurants now. A billionaire built a new island off the coast of Manhattan that occasionally has free concerts. You can use your phone to ride the subway. A small part of Penn Station is now above ground. Also, Ubers are a lot more expensive. That pretty much sums it up!

In all seriousness, you’re probably reading this for one of two reasons. One: you’re excited about returning to NYC and want to know what’s cool in the city. On that front, we’ve got you covered. We put together a TL;DR guide to the top five things visitors to NYC should do right now just in case you’re fleeing the country and need to plan your leisure time ASAP. Here are also some handy guides to our favorite hotels in NYC and the best Broadway shows to see while you’re here. Two: you want to find somewhere to drink. Here you go.

Let me be clear: even though you always sound like you’re smarter than us, we are truly happy for you to return. Fall in the city has not been the same without seeing you Brits on the streets, oblivious to the grey skies while looking slightly better than us in raincoats. To be completely honest, there is no way to catch you up on everything that’s happened during our time apart, but we can’t wait for the time that we’ll have together going forward.

Oh, and if you want some more tailored advice on what to do on your first trip back, I assure you we have plenty.

See you soon!

Will Gleason
