Sure, London might be about to get a million new Gail’s’ (we exaggerate), but that doesn’t mean we should forget about the capital’s many fantastic independent bakeries. In fact, London’s bakeries are so good, that three of them have been named as some of the best artisan bakeries in the UK, and some for the second year in a row no less

British Baker has revealed this year’s picks for the top 13 artisan bakeries in Britain, voted for by industry experts. More than 100 specialists from bakers to suppliers, consultants, and lecturers were chosen by British Baker to vote for their favourite artisan bakeries for 2025.

In the baker’s dozen-long ranking, three London spots were chosen. The highest rated London bakery was French-Asian inspired spot Arôme, which came in fifth place. The bakery with outposts in Covent Garden and Mayfair climbed six spots from last year’s list, and was praised for its ‘beautiful baked goods which meld age-old French methodologies with Asian ingredients’. Must-try bakes from Arôme include the honey butter toast, the miso bacon escargot pastry, and the apple miso danish.

The next London bakery on the list was Bread Ahead, in 12th place. The mini chain is most famous for its stuffed doughnuts and sourdough loaves. As well as having five bakeries across London, Bread Ahead also has a bakery school in Borough Market.

Finally, Fortitude Bakehouse took the 13th and final spot in the list of the UK’s best artisan bakeries. The Bloomsbury café and takeaway frequently has queues outside for its famous beignets and stuffed danish’s, that come in an ever-changing menu of experimental and on-trend flavours.
