Far Lama map of creatives London

It’s not easy being a creative type in London’s bullshit property market. As well as all the same issues paying the rent as the rest of us, artists, photographers, filmmakers, musicians and DJs arguably have to spend more to actually do their job: studio space and equipment don’t come cheap.

And yet the city’s creatives hang on. Fat Lama is a service which lets people earn extra cash by renting out their gear when they’re not using it. Using the number of listings for creative equipment on its site, it’s worked out which London postcodes have the highest density of photographers, filmmakers, musicians and DJs.

Lay them all out and it’s easy to pick out the hubs. Brixton, Camden, Islington, Soho and – above all – east London are full of arty folk still finding ways to make ends meet and chase their bliss in the big city. Your move, Margate.
