London Heathrow is a titan of global air travel. This year LHR has been named the best-connected airport in the world and the planet’s fourth-busiest airport, and it’s had several record-breaking months so far in 2024. And now, once again, Heathrow is in the record books.
OAG, a flight database and statistics company, has just named a Heathrow flight route the busiest in Europe and one of the busiest in the entire world. In 2024 New York JFK to London Heathrow was officially the planet’s 10th-busiest route, with a whopping 4,011,235 seats.
JFK to LHR seat numbers grew by three percent this past year compared to 2023, but still actually slipped down in the global ranking. In OAG’s 2023 list it came eighth, while in 2022 it was fourth.
The busiest flight route in the world this year was Hong Kong to Taipei, which saw a 48 percent increase to 6,781,577 seats. Seven of the top 10 busiest routes in OAG’s study are in Asia.
