Despite recent and rapid gentrification, Hackney is London’s third poorest borough (after Tower Hamlets and Newham). By 2020, government funding to the council will have been cut almost in half, and charities are having to fill the gaps in youth services – a more crucial job than ever as violent crime rises.
Enter Hackney Quest – a good old-fashioned social charity that works with more than 300 young people and families each year from its base off Well Street. It runs mentoring schemes, youth club evenings, workshops, trips, academic support, community events and loads more services designed to help underprivileged kids in the area and their families.
So what’s this got to do with you? Well, this winter, Hackney Quest is marking 30 years of serving the local community with a birthday crowdfunding campaign that aims to raise £30,000 by Christmas, enabling the charity to help even more families in 2019. Local or not, chip in whatever you can spare and help London’s next generation thrive.
