[title]
The weather might be getting frosty but there’s plenty of hot stuff to be found all over the city this Sunday, from a fiery barbecue at Peckham’s GrillJam festival to mulled wine at London Fields Christmas Market and a panto-themed race round Greenwich raising money for children and the disabled. Cockles well and truly warmed.
1. Forest Uprising
The culmination of Waltham Forest’s programme as the inaugural London Borough of Culture, ‘Forest Uprising’ sees Leyton Sports Ground lit up by tree-like structures designed by Glastonbury collaborator Block9. Expect them to be big!
Leyton Sports Ground. Leyton Midland Road Overground. Until Sun Dec 15. Free.
2. London Fields Christmas Market
Head to this festive edition of the weekly market at London Fields Primary School to pick up Christmas trimmings and festive snacks.
London Fields Primary School. London Fields Overground. Sun Dec 15. Free entry.
3. GrillJam
Feel the heat at this winter barbecue festival serving piping hot chicken wings, ribs and raclette-smothered steaks. Try street food tasters for as little as £1 and wash them down with craft brews in a Bavarian-style beer hall while listening to live DJs. Tickets include a bunch of goodies including a free drink from Goose Island brewery.
Bussey Building. Peckham Rye Overground. Until Sun Dec 15. £13.84.
4. London Pantomime Horse Race
Watch dozens of panto horses (plus a few pretenders in the form of zebras and cows) gallop through Greenwich in a stupendously silly race raising money for charity. This year the theme is ‘Star Wars’, so expect the nags to come dressed as some of your fave characters.
Devonport House, King William Walk. Greenwich rail. Sun Dec 15. Free to watch.
5. Jolly Hobbies Japanese Christmas Market
Go to Crouch End for the ninth edition of this Japanese Christmas market where you can get your hands on traditional homeware, accessories, arts and crafts, pottery and food. Then feast on sushi, bento, cake and green tea.
Hornsey Parish Church. Highgate tube. Sun Dec 15. Free entry.
